A petition for a chapter, endorsed by twelve students and six faculty, was submitted in November, 1972. Professor Allman was notified that the petition had been approved on December 2, 1974. Northrop Delta Kappa was installed on March 22,1975, by President E.W. Jerger and National Secretary-Treasurer Hudy C. Hewitt. Thirteen active and two honorary members were initiated as charter members.

The Mechanical Engineering program at Northrop was dropped in 1990. With this occurrence, Delta Kappa, unfortunately, became inactive. The last initiation was held on April 30th 1990.

Northrop University ceased operations in 1993. The Northrop Institute of Technology was acquired by Rice Aviation shortly after Northrop closed and eventually became Northrop Rice USA, Inc (NRUSA). Northrop Rice USA created what is now the Northrop Rice Advanced Institute of Technology which continues to operate in the old Northrop Institute of Technology and Northrop University facilities
