Iowa Omicron

With the encouragement of Professor H. O. Croft, head of the Department, a group of upper classmen in mechanical engineering petitioned for a chapter in Pi Tau Sigma in 1935. The charter was granted, and the Iowa Omicron Chapter was instituted on November 15, 1935, at the National Convention held at Purdue University. National President J.V. Martenis was the installing officer.

The chapter awards a Mechanical Engineer's Handbook to the sophomore mechanical engineer who has shown the greatest achievements in scholarly and 'school activities. In addition, members of Pi Tau Sigma undertake projects that will help to promote and better the Department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Iowa. Current projects consist of assembling a graduate school catalog, organizing the faculty publications board, and updating the undergraduate picture board.
